Paulo Maldini is widely regarded as the out and out greatest defender of all time. The talismanic Italian defender spent his entire career at AC Milan amassing every trophy possible. From 1984 to his retirement in 2009, Maldini picked up 23 major trophies including 7 Serie A titles and 5 UEFA Champions League titles. Although Maldini never won an international trophy he won 126 caps and is widely regarded in Italy as their greatest ever player.
